The picture on the left is from a concert in Seattle in 1968 or '69, I think we played with Malo that weekend. The picture below was taken at a concert at DVC, probably 1970. I had been up all night the night before, playing the International House at UC Berkeley. All great fun...the photo below is from Livermore's Wine and Honey Fair in 2002. We didn't get as far as we wanted to in the music business, but we were a part of history. We met Muhammed Ali, played gigs with Rod Stewart, Santana, Creedence, Ike & Tina Turner and many more of the who's who of that time. Our lead guitarist, Greg Douglass, did "make it" and went on to play with Steve Miller, Greg Kihn and others, and co-wrote Jungle Love. I'm very proud of him. Country Weather was a hot band, with Dave Carter on bass and Bill Baron on drums. Some headline acts refused to go on after us, a huge compliment. I refuse to die with the music still in me. Dave and I put together a band in 2000 with Graham Cooper and Lloyd Ferris. In 2005, life-long friend and bass player Roger Ford introduced me to Mike McMillan. We added Ed Sandoval, and later Chris Harper on drums and recorded a CD that wasn't released. It is being mastered in the next month or so and should be available in a couple of months. I put together another band in Stockton with Mike, Ed Sandoval and Cecil Eller and we played covers for a couple of years. Sadly, Mike passed away in April of 2016 and I, along with many others, have been recovering ever since. Mike's wife of 30-plus years, Susie, discovered a recording of him playing my song "Til Kingdom Come" on his computer. That was the inspiration for this new CD. I'm continuing to focus on writing, playing with friends at Whirlow's on Thursday nights and playing the occasional gig with my friend and guitar coach, Clancy Ferrill. My life is full and I am happy. I would be honored to have you as a listener and consumer of my music.
Beauty found in nature...photos of deep space from the Hubble Telescope, a breaching Humpback Whale, a Cheetah running at full speed. The power of human love. My children and step-children, my grandchildren, my lovely wife. My parents for caring for their sick baby boy. Our fallen soldiers. And of course, beautiful music.
Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Skeeter Davis, Roy Orbison, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, The Kinks, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Moby, Emily Lou Harris, Willie Nelson and many more. I thank them all for the following: My song Fly to New York was one of 80 songs selected by Rhino Records in their 40th Anniversary Retrospective of the Summer of Love. The book and cds were nominated for a Grammy and Fly to New York was mentioned in Rolling Stone Magazine's review of the retrospective. A proud moment for me and the band.
